Pluteus aurantiorugosus (11-10-16)Pluteus aurantiorugosus, is a nationally rare fungus, and is usually found south of Warwickshire. It has only been recorded twice before in Leicestershire, but a superb group has now appeared on the base of the chestnut tree trunk, now a carved seat, in Saint Andrews Churchyard. This fungus is reported to grow on rotten wood, often stumps, with a preference for elm, though it has been recorded on beech stumps.
The caps do not have free gills, and have an unusual mix of cystidia with the gill edge ones different from those on the gill face. The mature spores are pink.
